Caribou hunting

Frank Feldmann will be in camp guiding on all Central Barren Ground Caribou Hunts from 2023

Native Caribou on the West coast of Greenland is estimated to a population of 140.000 animals. Greenland is part of the North American continent, P&Y classifies them as Central Canada Barren Ground Canada Caribou, and the local tongue is Tuttu. The hunting camp is strategically and remote located in the heart of great game country. Specialized in Archery 90% of our Caribou hunters are bowhunters, and success rate is almost 100%.

Caribou hunting expeditions are mainly conducted like a Sheep hunt hiking up in the mountains based on where the animals are. Later in the season during the rut, Caribou move down from the high mountains and hunting them is easier. Hunting Big Caribou with bow and arrow in the spectacular wilderness of Greenland is a challenge and a true Arctic expedition hunt. Caribou hunting can be combined with Muskox.

Bow hunting license and regulations.
Compound 45# with fixed broadheads is 385 grain arrows. Compound 55# with mechanical broad heads is minimum 430 grain arrows. As a experienced and dedicated bowhunter Frank Feldmann did the test hunt, and wrote the law text for compound, Caribou was legalized in 2013 after a test bowhunt by Frank. Frank is also authorized to issue the required hunting licenses in camp before we hunt.

Traveling all the way to Greenland a remote quality hunt is what most hunters expect. Total flight cost is from $1,500 to $2,000. Overnight flights from America to Keflavik or Copenhagen from $550 to $1,000. Morning flight from Keflavik or Copenhagen to Greenland from $800 to $1,200, and fligth time is from 2.5 hours.

Caribou hunting - Itinerary

Day 1. Our representative meet you at arrival at the airport and take you to the hotel. It is always a good idea to have one extra day for changes due to the weather

Day 2. Charter transfer in the morning to our remote camp. Our back country loghouse has everything we need to make our stay comfortable. Breakfast and dinner is served at camp where we prepare tasty food from fresh ingredients, supplemented with game, fish and wine for dinner - during the day we make packed lunch. Start hunting after test shooting at a Rinihart target, and early brunch.

Day 3-6. Caribou 2 x 1 hunting is a true challenge, be in sheep shape, and prepare for up to 60 yard open country range. Caribou do not have particularly sharp sight, and foraging cycle brings them on the move for some hours against the wind, followed by rest. When a quality caribou bull has been spotted we plan the hunting strategy, and the best chances occur while the animals are either feeding or bedded. Hunting big Caribou with bow and arrow in abundant game country is plenty of time here in Greenland. If you tag out early and want a second Caribou it is best to book in advance.

Day 7.
The helicopter takes you back to civilization in the morning. Fly back home.

Hunting testimonials

Thank You Frank for an outstanding  hunting experience. I have done many big game hunts in the last 10 years. Your hunt was one of the best I have ever been on. I was nervous about going on an International hunt, but I will admit that you are very organized and professional. I want to compliment you on your selection of staff. They were first rate and performed their roles extremely well. The food was excellent, the cabin was new and very accommodating and the boats and equipment used on the hunt were in great shape. Besides filling both our Muskox and Caribou tags with world-class trophy's, and a SCI new 502” world record, the scenery was spectacular and absolutely breathtaking. I was a completely satisfied customer. The hunt was well worth the 2-year wait.
Russell Forbes. Ontario, Canada.

This was a truly one of a kind hunt!! The guides were extremely knowledgeable on what to go after. Archery 394 6/8" Caribou is a new SCI World Record, I can honestly say this hunt was a 10 out of 10!! Everything from the very nice cabin, the unreal views, the food, the fishing was everything you could imagine and more, and of course the most nerve racking and unreal spot and stalk bow hunting I have ever done!! I would recommend this hunt to anyone at anytime!! Frank runs a truly world class outfitter service!!

I hunted with BowhuntingGreenland September 12-16, 2016 and was one of four rifle hunters in camp for a combination Muskox and Greenlandic Caribou hunt. Our outfitter Frank Feldmann, his guides and the accommodations during the hunt exceeded our expectations in this remote part of South West Greenland. The landscape and scenery is breathtaking, plenty of Muskox can be seen daily along with sightings of caribou. This was a true fair chase hunting adventure with some hard and physical work providing all four of us in camp with 100% success rate for Muskox and Greenlandic Caribou. My hunting partner Russell Forbes harvested what we all believe will be the next World Record Greenlandic Caribou (to be confirmed). Frank Feldmann is a professional man who has high ethics and caring attitude for the environment, the people and animals. His knowledge of watercrafts, tides, oceans, weather, and animal behavior provided us with a great appreciation of the country, hunting success and more importantly a safe hunting trip for all of us. For a great adventure and hunting experience book a trip with Frank Feldmann, you won’t be disappointed.
John Donato. Cambridge, Ontario Canada

I booked my hunt with Frank in the fall of 2015. Frank made accommodations for me and three friends to hunt Caribou and muskox. As a group we could not have been happier! His coordination of getting us from the states to his remote hunting camp was amazing in itself. The accommodations for a remote camp were more than adequate and the scenery was breathtaking. We all harvested 4 giant muskox with archery equipment and additionally tremendous caribou. We haven't gotten them scored yet but should be high in the record books. I've been on guided hunts pursuing the Superslam for 15 years and can say Frank is one of the best outfitters I've ever hunted with.
Alan Brock

I just returned from a muskox and caribou hunting trip in Greenland with Frank Feldman, and what a remarkable time we had. Four of us hunted with Frank and we all filled out with caribou and older muskox Bulls, 7 year or older. You will glass a good number of Bulls to find yours, and there are a lot to choose from. Up the mountains we found my 372 7/8" Caribou, you better be in pretty good shape there are some great Bulls either on top mountains or far up valleys. We fished Cod, Arctic Char and Atlantic Salmon for some wonderful meals in camp. Thanks Frank for a wonderful time.
Don Urbatsch

Thanks so much for an incredible hunt. The attention to detail considering the remote environment was impressive. We saw several impresive Muskox and Caribou every day. The story telling and food were just icing on the cake after a terrific week of hunting and fishing. We came there to hunt Muskox and considered the Caribou hunt as a bonus and that was far from reality. The Caribou hunt was a lot more work than I had ever dreamed but was one of the most gratifying hunts I have ever done. I have done a lot of once in a life time hunts and this ranks up there with the best of them. So much so I may have to come back for another opportunity at trophy Caribou.
Brett W. Hoge

From beginning to end this hunt is more than just a hunt, it is truly an adventure. First and foremost Frank is a bowhunter that loves what he does. This is evident with his enthusiasm for the hunt and his attention to detail as a guide and outfitter. This was unlike any other hunt I have been on. As you glass the hillsides and travel the fjords through southern Greenland, spot and stalk Muskox and Caribou hunting is something you will not forget. Where else could you be taking a picture of seals, whales and icebergs in one moment then focusing in on a trophy Muskox the next. The quality and quantity of animals is tremendous and I'm looking forward to going back soon!
Jim Jenzano

Rarely do you find an outfitter that prepares his clients for their hunt as well as Frank did for my wife and myself. Providing a detailed description of the hunt, the conditions, the expectations, the schedule, the equipment, the physical requirements and more made our hunt an enjoyable and exciting experience. The quality of the wildlife coupled with the sights and sounds of Greenland and her spectacular coastline is unforgettable. Our Muskox/Caribou hunt produced both the trophies and adventure of a lifetime, and we even found the time to add in some great fishing!
Joe Bellini Franktown CO USA

Every once in a while you have one of those trips where absolutely everything works out perfect. From the logistics, the camp, the food, and the guides, to the breath taking scenery and the amazing animals the Island holds, I cannot say enough about Frank's operation. I took two great Pope & Young animals but they were just icing on the cake of an adventure I will never forget. This should be a bucket list destination for any dedicated archery hunter and there is no one who will do a better job to make your hunt all it can be than Frank Feldmann.
Gary Colbath

The caribou hunt made my trip an awesome experience. It was a true mountain adventure and the archery friendly terrain in combination with quality of trophies availiable made it a phenomenal hunt. When I go back I will be having two caribou tags!
Greg Schuerger

Thank you for the impressive effort you have made to make this hunt a reality and your company as a guide, it was a real pleasure to be around camp and be a part of the hunt.
Anders Gejer, president of the European bowhunting federation

Frank, thank you for the great muskox hunt and all the arrangements! This surely is one of those hunting adventures we all will always remember. I’ve been bowhunting for 30+ years and seen lots of great places and wonderful animals. For hunters who have seen a lot, the Greenland muskox hunt is an invaluable opportunity to do something new, in an amazing landscape. And, compared to other real wilderness hunts this one is also hunter friendly priced. The hunt succeeded much better than I dared to dream. We saw plenty of muskoxen, and various really good trophy animals. Before the hunt I was a bit worried that muskoxen may be too easy to hunt, but after crawling a couple of hundred meters in the willows and finally trying to get a clear shooting lane at a trophy ox without anyone of the herd seeing me I realized that this really is a challenging hunt! Next time a muskox–caribou combo!
Juha Kylmä, president of the bowhunting federation in Finland
